While more research is being done on the levels of PFAS exposure, it is astounding that the Australian Bureau of Statistics are now making scientific statements such as there was “currently limited evidence of human disease or other clinically significant harm resulting from PFAS exposure”. The ABS should stick to stats and let the scientists do the science as this statement from the ABS directly contradicts the US EPA where they say:
“What We Know about Health Effects
Current peer-reviewed scientific studies have shown that exposure to certain levels of PFAS may lead to:
- Reproductive effects such as decreased fertility or increased high blood pressure in pregnant women.
- Developmental effects or delays in children, including low birth weight, accelerated puberty, bone variations, or behavioral changes.
- Increased risk of some cancers, including prostate, kidney, and testicular cancers.
- Reduced ability of the body’s immune system to fight infections, including reduced vaccine response.
- Interference with the body’s natural hormones.
- Increased cholesterol levels and/or risk of obesity.”
PFAS chemicals are toxic and we have all been exposed to them for years.
It is time to start cleaning up this mess and stop making excuses.
The sooner these chemicals are removed from our water cycle, the better off we will all be.
