The Hinterland Environmental Water Scheme

The Hinterland Environmental Water Scheme (HEWS) is a climate adaptive project dedicated to repurposing Class A recycled water for local food production, firefighting and environmental benefits within the Hinterland of the Mornington Peninsula.

Our Board

Steven Marshall

Steven is our resident Argonomist, with first-hand experience in running profitable farming enterprises. Currently the Managing Director of Peninsula Horticultural Designs, Peninsula Avocados, and Watershed Innovations, Steven’s raft of experience in agricultural management means his passion for finding water solutions for clients has led him to specialise in desalination technology and the use of recycled water for agricultural purposes. Steven consults on horticulture and water management internationally, whilst serving local communities through his membership on the Victoria Farmers Federation, Mornington Shire’s Food Industry Advisory Board, and the Peninsula Reclaimed Water Concept.

Russell Joseph

While initially starting his education in Chemical Engineering, Russell moved into the construction industry and developed his trade and construction skills while self-employed for over 25 years. In recent years Russell has worked in the political realm as an electorate officer, advisor and manager through the Victorian Parliament as well as having experience as a political candidate. Russell is currently the director of a strategic policy business with clients in the corporate and local government sector while sitting on the board of the HEWS and a founding member o Peninsula Community Housing.
